I haven’t had a cold or the flu in quite some time and I suspect drinking this tasty herbal tea blend during the times when everyone else is catching something has a lot to do with it.
Here is a great combination of herbs which have shown to have a marked effect on my immune system, allowing it to better handle different incoming infectious viruses and bacteria.
All Organic Ingredients:
- Elder Berries
- Elder Flowers
- Rose Hips
- Yarrow
Everyone has heard about the powers of echinacea during cold season, while elder berries are an ancient folk medicine go-to and these are the main components to this blend.
Another key component to making this tea so effective for me, is the added vitamin c content from the rose hips. By having this bonus added in, I find the whole blend just works better. Nothing like some old school folk medicines combined with super vitamin c boost to really make my immune system resilient.
I get best results for dealing with noticeable, acute cold/flu symptoms coming on with this tea by brewing up a large amount at once, usually a 1 liter mason jar. This way I have the tea readily available and I can sip on it throughout the day without having to make a fresh cup each time.
The second key for my success with this tea is steeping it for a super long time so I can get the most goodness out of the herbs. I do this by simply placing about 1 teaspoon of herb per cup of water (so 3-4 tsps in 1 liter mason jar) in the jar and then pouring the hot water over the herbs in the jar and leaving it for the rest of the day to steep.
I don’t strain out the herbs while I drink from the jar, as I find they continue to enhance the effectiveness of the tea by steeping longer. Over the day, the tea gets stronger and I find it works better for me. I often store it in the refrigerator as it cools down so it keeps even longer and if I don’t drink it all in one day, it is still good the next day.
Used more as a preventative, I like to simply make a strong, single cup infusion a few times a week and enjoy that. Especially if I am going to go somewhere where there are lots of people during cold season, then I’ll drink a good strong cup before I head out to keep me protected.
